Few addresses in Berlin carry as much history as this one. The Adlon stands on Unter den Linden, a two minute walk from the Brandenburg Gate, and has been receiving guests since 1907. Its pale stone front and green copper roof belong to the classic picture of the city centre.
Inside, the mood is grand but unhurried. A bronze elephant fountain greets you in the lobby, and the lounge under its glass dome is where people settle in with a newspaper, a coffee or the evening piano. The Elephant Bar, known for its cigars, is a favourite spot for a late drink.
The 385 rooms and suites lean classic, with heavy curtains, marble bathrooms and, in the best of them, a straight view of the Gate. The larger suites add fireplaces, kitchens and whirlpool baths.
There are four restaurants, among them a Michelin starred dining room looking out on the Brandenburg Gate and an Asian kitchen, plus a breakfast spread that guests keep talking about. The spa has a columned indoor pool, a sauna and treatment rooms, a calm retreat after a day of museums.
Our video takes you from the front steps to the pool, so you can feel the scale of the place before you arrive.

Berlin, Germany.
The Adlon sits in Mitte, the historic heart of Berlin, right on Pariser Platz. The Brandenburg Gate is at the door, the Reichstag with its glass cupola and the Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe are a few minutes away on foot, and a preserved line of the Berlin Wall is close by.
Walk east along Unter den Linden and you reach the State Opera, Gendarmenmarkt and Museum Island, while the green expanse of the Tiergarten opens up just west of the Gate. Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER) is roughly 45 minutes away by car or regional train.

Guests mostly praise the Adlon for warm, attentive staff, its location next to the Brandenburg Gate and spacious, well equipped rooms. The pool and spa, the huge breakfast buffet and the piano in the lounge come up again and again, and the Elephant Bar has its own fans. The downside: several recent visitors felt the hotel was short of staff at busy moments, with slow check in, queues at breakfast and patchy service on the restaurant terrace, and a few find the room decor somewhat dated.
