Das Stue sits on the quiet southern edge of the Tiergarten, in the leafy embassy quarter of Berlin, inside a stately neoclassical building from the 1930s. Walk in and the mood changes at once: a sweeping double staircase, a cloud of tiny lights overhead and a sculpted crocodile stretched across the hall tell you this is a place that likes to mix heritage with a sense of humour.
Rooms and suites are generous, calm and full of daylight, dressed in warm wood, bold fabrics and design pieces, with rainfall showers in the bathrooms. Ask for the park side and you may wake up to treetops and a glimpse of the zoo next door, while some rooms on the top floor have a balcony of their own.
Eating well is part of the stay. There is a Mediterranean restaurant, a breakfast that guests talk about long after checkout and a bar where cocktails and live music carry the evening. Downstairs, the spa pairs a slender indoor pool with a sauna and Susanne Kaufmann treatments.
Borrow one of the hotel bikes and you can cycle through the park towards the Brandenburg Gate, then return to a house that feels more like a stylish private residence than a big city hotel. Our video takes you inside.

Berlin, Germany.
Berlin is a city of neighbourhoods, and Das Stue sits in one of its greenest corners. The Tiergarten, a huge park of lakes, lawns and woodland paths, starts right outside, and Zoo Berlin is a short walk away. The Brandenburg Gate lies about 3 km east, an easy bike ride straight through the park.
The surrounding embassy quarter is quiet and full of striking diplomatic architecture, yet the shops of Kurfürstendamm, the galleries and concert halls around Potsdamer Platz and the cafes of Schöneberg are all within a few minutes by bus, bike or taxi. Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER) is roughly 40 minutes away by car.

Guests love the setting beside the Tiergarten, which makes the hotel feel calm and removed from the crowds while the sights stay within easy reach. Spacious, well designed rooms, an excellent breakfast, a lively bar and a pool that is rare for a city hotel come up again and again, as does a warm and attentive team. The honest downside: several summer guests found the air conditioning too weak on hot days, and there is no private parking, so cars end up on the street at a steep daily rate.
