The Ritz London

The Ritz London

London, United Kingdom

The Ritz London has stood on Piccadilly since 1906, and its arcaded facade overlooking Green Park remains one of the most recognisable sights in the West End. Pass under the wrought iron canopy and you enter a world of gilt, chandeliers and Louis XVI detail that has welcomed royalty, film stars and countless family celebrations.

There are 136 rooms and suites, dressed in soft blues, pinks and creams with antique furniture, marble fireplaces and fresh flowers. The larger suites, such as the Royal Suite and the Prince of Wales Suite, add private dining rooms and generous lounges, while a recently renewed wing brings discreet modern technology into the classic setting.

Food sits at the heart of a stay. Afternoon tea in the Palm Court, with a pianist playing nearby, is a London ritual in its own right, and The Ritz Restaurant serves classic dishes, some finished at the table, in a room of mirrors and painted ceilings. In the warmer months The Secret Garden opens as a leafy terrace, and the Rivoli Bar takes over once evening falls.

Service is formal and attentive, from the hall porters in the lobby to the chauffeured Rolls-Royce, and a smart dress code applies in the public rooms. The video follows the hotel through its summer season, from the suites to the tea tables.

Guests describe The Ritz as a true occasion, often chosen for birthdays, engagements and other milestones. Afternoon tea in the Palm Court earns the most praise, with live piano music, delicate pastries and staff who go out of their way, including personalised cakes. Overnight guests mention immaculate rooms, a central location and the arrival in the hotel's Rolls-Royce. The honest downside: a few visitors felt the formal dress code was enforced coldly and that service was warmer for some tables than for others, which left them feeling less welcome.
