Set in a grand red-brick building on Mauritskade, Pillows Maurits at the Park looks out over the trees of Oosterpark in Amsterdam East. The historic house has been carefully restored as a calm boutique hotel, and arrival feels more like visiting a private home than checking in: guests are seated in the Living Room with a drink while the paperwork is handled.

Guests are close to unanimous about the welcome: bags are taken at the door, check-in happens seated with a drink, and small personal touches wait in the room. The restored building, the quiet park setting and the spotless, well lit rooms come up often, as do the bar and the wellness area. The weaker point is dining: several guests found the brasserie good rather than memorable, with service that could be slow, and one felt the paid coffee system in the lounge did not match the level of the hotel.
