Via Margutta has been the street of painters and artists' studios for centuries, and it found fame on screen in Roman Holiday. Margutta 19 fits into it without fuss. An arched stone doorway at number 19 opens onto a hallway of marble and framed art, then a compact reception, and the bustle around the Spanish Steps already feels a long way off.
Rooms and suites are dressed in warm neutrals, with gold and bronze panelling, black and white photography and tall windows that look either onto the cobbled lane or onto the green slope behind the building. The Garden Suites are the ones to watch for in the video: their sofas and dining tables sit outdoors among palms and climbing plants, a rare kind of private space in the historic centre. Bathrooms are lined in pale stone, and several suites have a freestanding tub.
On the ground floor, EMME is the hotel restaurant, a dining room of wood and soft light that opens onto a terraced garden at the back. Guests single out the lasagna and the cocktails from the bar, and after dark the garden glows with little table lamps.
There is no pool or gym here; the real draw is the address. Piazza del Popolo, the Pincio terrace and Villa Borghese are all within an easy stroll.

Rome, Italy.
Margutta 19 sits in the Tridente, the triangle of streets between Piazza del Popolo and Piazza di Spagna. Via Margutta itself is a quiet, ivy covered lane of galleries, antique dealers and craft workshops, with the Fontana degli Artisti halfway along, while the shopping streets of Via del Babuino and Via Condotti are a block or two away.
From the hotel you can walk up to the Pincio and the gardens of Villa Borghese, climb the Spanish Steps to Trinità dei Monti and Villa Medici, or head south to the Trevi Fountain and the Pantheon. Flaminio station is a short walk to the north, and Rome Fiumicino Airport is roughly 35 to 45 minutes away by car.
What guests say.
From guest reviews, checked October 2026.Guests mostly praise the setting on Via Margutta, a calm lane that still puts the main sights within walking distance, along with warm and attentive staff, well finished rooms and a good breakfast. The garden restaurant and its cooking get frequent mentions too. On the downside, a few reviewers felt the price was high for a hotel without a pool, gym or large lobby, one guest was kept awake by ventilation noise next to their room, and the handling of complaints and booking changes has drawn criticism.
