Marcella Royal Hotel

Rome, Italy

Marcella Royal Hotel sits inside a Neo-Renaissance palazzo on Via Flavia, in the calmer grid of streets near Via XX Settembre. It is a four-star address with a classic Roman heart: gilded mirrors, damask sofas and a lounge that feels like a private drawing room, reached through a lantern-lit doorway.

No two rooms are quite alike. Some keep a traditional look with patterned walls and warm reds, while the updated ones are pale and quiet, with marble bathrooms and tall padded headboards. A few frame the domes of the city through the window, and the single suite adds a sitting corner and a whirlpool bath.

The real reason to stay is on the roof. Terrazza Flavia, the hotel's garden terrace, is where mornings begin with breakfast in a glass room or outside among the plants, and where evenings end with a cocktail as the skyline turns gold. Guest after guest singles out that view.

Our video and gallery follow the same rhythm: the entrance, the lounge, the terrace in daylight, the rooms, the breakfast spread and Rome at dusk from above. It suits travellers who want a peaceful base within walking distance of Villa Borghese and Via Veneto, with the busiest piazzas a longer stroll or a short taxi ride away.

Guests mostly praise the rooftop: breakfast up there comes with sweeping city views, and the bar is a favourite spot for an evening drink. Rooms are described as clean, comfortable and often generously sized, and many reviewers name individual staff members who went out of their way to help. The location is calm and central, though the main sights take a twenty to thirty minute walk. On the downside, several guests found the wifi unreliable, a few mention weak shower pressure, and some had less pleasant encounters at the front desk.
