Hotel Casadelmar

Corsica, France

Casadelmar sits on a hillside on the south shore of the Gulf of Porto-Vecchio, a long, low building of wood and glass by the architect Jean-François Bodin. It follows the slope rather than standing above it, so the garden and the water are always in view: three hectares of olive trees, palms, cypress and maquis, planted by the landscape designer Jean Mus.

There are 34 rooms and suites, from 35 to 75 square metres, and each one faces the sea from its own terrace. Inside, pale wood, white walls and a few bold pieces of furniture leave the light off the gulf to do most of the work. Below the rooms, a heated 25 metre pool runs to the edge of the garden, and a private jetty gives you direct access to the sea, with boats and water sports on the gulf arranged by the concierge.

Food is a large part of a stay. At the top of the hotel, the gastronomic restaurant has held two Michelin stars since 2009, with Italian chef Fabio Bragagnolo cooking Corsican and Italian produce. Down by the shore, Il Pontile is the easy option, its terrace set right over the water. The myBlend spa has a hammam, a sauna and a gym with a view across the bay. The hotel opens for the season, from spring into early October.

Destination info

Corsica, France.

Porto-Vecchio is a small port town in the south-east of Corsica, built around a Genoese citadel on a hill above a deep, sheltered gulf. On summer evenings its narrow streets and squares fill with people heading to dinner, and the marina below the walls is busy with sailing boats.

Some of the island's best-known beaches are a short drive south: Palombaggia, with its red rocks and umbrella pines, and Santa Giulia, a wide bay of shallow turquoise water. Inland, the road climbs through the Ospedale forest towards the granite peaks of Bavella, good for walking on cooler days. Bonifacio, with its white cliffs and houses on the edge, is about forty minutes south. Figari Sud-Corse Airport is around half an hour away by car.

Guests describe a calm, modern hotel of wood and glass on the Corsican coast, where every room has a terrace or balcony facing the water. The heated pool overlooking the sea, the gardens and the restaurants come up again and again, from the gourmet tasting menu to the grill, and the free boat to the sister hotel's beach is a welcome extra. The honest drawback is the extra charges: several reviewers were surprised to pay separately for cooked eggs at breakfast, water and beach towels at these room rates.

Damien C.Google, June 2026

“The heated pool was especially enjoyable, and swimming while overlooking the sea made for a really memorable experience.”

“This hotel is very luxurious but purposely modern and somewhat spartan and uncluttered by design. The views from our balcony were outstanding.”
