Sofitel London St James sits on Waterloo Place, in a stately neoclassical building at the polished heart of St James's. At dusk the pale stone facade lights up gold, and inside the hotel mixes French flair with a quietly British sense of tailoring.
Rooms are calm and bright, dressed in crisp white and deep navy, with the signature Sofitel MyBed and an evening turn-down ritual that the hotel shows off in its own videos. Suites add a sitting area or a separate living room, which helps on longer stays. Entry-level rooms are compact, so choose a bigger category if you travel with lots of luggage.
Eating and drinking are a big part of the appeal. Wild Honey St James serves relaxed bistro cooking under rows of glowing globe lamps, and the Rose Lounge is known for playful themed afternoon teas, one of them inspired by The Phantom of the Opera. Later on, the lounge with its harp and the cocktail bar take over.
Away from the bustle, the spa offers a warmly lit indoor pool and stone-clad treatment rooms, and there is a modest gym. Meeting rooms hold up to 180 people. The welcome video above gives a quick first look before you arrive.

London, United Kingdom.
St James's is one of the most refined pockets of central London, a district of gentlemen's clubs, old shirtmakers, art dealers and grand Georgian and Victorian terraces between Piccadilly and The Mall.
From the hotel you can walk to Trafalgar Square and the National Gallery in a few minutes, cross St James's Park to Buckingham Palace, or head north to Piccadilly Circus, Soho and the West End theatres. Piccadilly Circus and Charing Cross stations are close by, and Heathrow is reachable by the Piccadilly line or the Elizabeth line.
What guests say.
From guest reviews, checked October 2026.4.7/5
9.1/10
Guests mostly praise the warm, attentive staff, from the doormen to the bar team, and the central position within walking distance of the big West End sights. Breakfast, the Wild Honey restaurant, the cocktails and the themed afternoon tea come up again and again, and families mention thoughtful touches for children. The honest downside: standard rooms can feel cramped, some rooms look out onto walls or rooftops, and a few guests found room service and the small gym below what they expect from a five-star address.
