Hotel Martinez, in The Unbound Collection by Hyatt

Cannes, France

Hotel Martinez has been one of the defining addresses of Cannes since it opened in 1929. The Art Deco palace stands on La Croisette, facing the bay, and today belongs to The Unbound Collection by Hyatt. Every May its white facade becomes a backdrop for the film festival, when juries, actors and photographers fill the lobby and the pavement outside.

Across the boulevard lies La Plage du Martinez, the hotel's own beach club, with curtained cabanas on a wooden jetty, long rows of sunbeds and lunch served a few steps from the water. Back at the hotel, a generous outdoor pool framed by wooden decking is the place guests mention again and again. Beach loungers are in high demand in summer, so reserving a day ahead pays off.

Rooms and suites range from city views to balconies that look straight over the Mediterranean, and the refreshed suites are styled in light tones with soft, airy furnishings. For a special evening, La Palme d'Or serves a gastronomic menu inside the hotel, while breakfast and relaxed meals happen downstairs. The concierge desk is known for finding restaurant tables during the busiest weeks of the year.

Watch the video for a tour of the rooms, the beach and the pool, and see why the Martinez remains a Riviera classic.

Destination info

Cannes, France.

Cannes is a seaside town on the French Riviera, famous worldwide for its film festival each May. La Croisette, the palm-lined promenade in front of the hotel, follows the bay past sandy beaches and designer boutiques to the Palais des Festivals at its western end.

Le Suquet, the old quarter on the hill, is roughly a 25 minute walk away and rewards the climb with views over the harbour. From the old port, boats cross to the Lérins Islands, where Sainte-Marguerite and Saint-Honorat offer pine woods and quiet coves. Nice Côte d'Azur Airport lies about 30 kilometres to the east, around 40 minutes by car.

Guests describe Hotel Martinez as a polished palace with a superb seafront position on La Croisette. The staff, and the concierge and housekeeping teams in particular, earn steady praise, as do the sea views, the pool and the beach club lunches, and several reviewers already plan a return. The criticism is consistent as well: some rooms and bathrooms feel dated, the reception area can seem dark, and beach loungers are limited in high season, so they need booking ahead. A few guests also mention slow communication between departments.
